The Untold Story of the New Testament Church by Frank Viola
I've just finished reading, The Untold Story of the New Testament Church, by Frank Viola. This is more a workbook/study guide than it is a book.
Viola tells the story of the New Testament Church and prompting the reader to read the books of the NT in their historical context. Thus you have the considerable background story and provocation for Paul's Letter to the Galatians from Syria Antioch around A.D. 49. Viola exhorts the reader to read the letter for him or herself. Having this in mind while reading the letter helped me understand the letter as never before. The experience of reading the NT in this way was quite profound because I understood these letters in their proper historical context.
Viola's book would be beneficial to anyone seeking a clearer understanding of the First Century Church. Readers seeking for a guidebook through the NT or small groups looking for a comprehensive study of the NT will be well served by this book.
